A rental cabinet spends its life being built, struck, flown, trucked and rebuilt. Two screens with identical pixel pitch can differ completely in how fast a crew can hang a 6 x 3 m wall, and that labour is the real cost. When comparing rental LED displays, weight, locking mechanism and service access matter as much as resolution.
When a screen appears on camera — IMAG, broadcast, livestream — a low refresh rate shows as horizontal banding. For anything filmed, specify 1,920 Hz or higher; 3,840 Hz is common on better rental cabinets. This is a separate number from pixel pitch and it is the one that generates complaints after the event.
Many rental fleets standardise on one cabinet platform with an indoor and an outdoor variant, so modules, power supplies, receiving cards and rigging hardware are interchangeable. A P3.91 indoor cabinet and its IP65 outdoor version sharing the same module platform reduces the spare parts you must stock and lets you swap between a ballroom and a festival with the same inventory.
For stages where the screen must not block the set or the lighting, transparent screens with 35–70% see-through and strip or mesh cabinets are common. They trade brightness and pixel density for transparency, so decide early whether the design needs the audience to see through the display.
